West Mill Cottage is ideally positioned on the border between England and Scotland. The rural location is where the medieval Edrington Castle once stood atop the cliffs above where the ruins of Edrington Mill now sit. The busy market town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is only a short 10 minute drive away, where it's shops, pubs and restaurants will keep you entertained.
Berwick offers a good range of unusual, independent shops including galleries, antique and restored furniture shops and quirky gift shops. The town is also well served with pubs, restaurants and cafes. Foodies will be delighted with the supremely fresh fish, excellent local cheeses, Chainbridge Honey and other fine local produce on offer.
The countryside setting of West Mill Cottage is wonderful throughout any season and provides an excellent base to explore the wider area. You can explore Northumberland’s Heritage coastline, 25 miles of golden sands and secluded rocky coves that remain almost deserted even in the summer months. Some popular spots include the stunning beach at Bamburgh, which has miles of pristine sand, popular for walking, riding, surfing and kite surfing as well as the magnificent views from the cliff top walks at St Abb’s Head and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
The charming, ancient towns of Duns and Kelso are also nearby and both Newcastle and Edinburgh are an easy day trip being about an hour by car or 45 minutes on the train from Berwick upon Tweed station.
