West Mill Cottage | Berwick-upon-Tweed | Northumberland
West Mill is a recently renovated cottage located in an idyllic setting. It is just one of two cottages in the area which are located on the banks of the River Whiteadder which ambles just outside of the windows. The cottage is at the end of a one way road and is approximately five miles west of Berwick-upon-Tweed, England's northernmost town. Moving east of the river and only a short 15 minute countryside walk away, is the small Scottish village of Paxton. West Mill Cottage therefore, is truly set in the Borders.
The cottage is a short two minute walk from Edrington Castle Mill, which is an 18th century category c listed cultural building. The Mill sits below the ruins of Edrington castle, a 14th century medievil castle which is thought to have always resided in Scotland, despite the frequent changing of hands of the local trading town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The picturesque location means that wildlife are frequent visitors. It is not uncommon to see Roe Deer grazing, Otters and Herons fishing and even Kingfishers and Woodpeckers are known to reside locally. All of these amazing features combined, make for an unforgettable experience.
